Catching up on music

2020 is a year where I (and I'm sure others too) have been finally getting around to either watching all the shows and movies we want to watch but haven't had time to yet or listen to music we said we'd check out. Here's some thoughts I've had listening to stuff on this musical to-do list.

Band: The Ocean Collective

Albums: Fogdiver, Fluxion, Aeolian, The Quiet Observer (Single)

I've been highly anticipating their new album set to come out later in 2020. But in the meantime, I'm getting around to their older music. I was first drawn to this band after hearing their 2013 album "Pelagial", to this day it's one of my favorite Metal albums but I never got around to listening to the albums they made before. For having so many different musicians in their lineup since their formation in the early 2000's, they have a very consistent sound. But these early albums are fantastic, and I hope to add physical copies to my record shelf as soon as I can.

Band: The Killers

Album: Imploding The Mirage

My First Impressions of The Killers brand new album is that it's a perfect melding of Heartland Rock and New Wave, and probably some of the best Heartland Rock ever written. It leans into Nostalgia while managing to not use it as a crutch. I think this will go down as one of their best albums. The Album art is great too.

Band: Opeth

Album: Damnation

Opeth released their first fully "Prog Rock" album at the same time as one of their heaviest albums to date "Deliverance". I've always been more of a fan of Opeths newer albums and I loved hearing their first full embrace of Progressive Rock. Mikael Akerfeldts voice truly shines on this album and it's some pretty solid "Rainy Day" music.
