Exploring Canadian Music

Next weeks episode of The Tim Gavin show is all about Canadian Music. Despite being in Radio for 6 years (give or take because of this damn layoff) I didn't often find myself digging too much into Cancon other than what we were forced to play, and the stuff I thought was the best CANCON often didn't chart as well and was kept on Hold most of the time. But going off completely on my own to find artists lead me to some really crazy interesting stuff, most of which wouldn't come to radio because it might be just outside of a format.

I've thought for a while that CANCON rules need to be changed, but now I have different reasons for that. Being an artist of any sort is difficult right now so hopefully when things get a little better we can all sit down and figure out better ways of showcasing Canada's music. Maybe I'll try it for a future episodes too. if you're a Program or Music director and want to have a roundtable discussion about what you'd like to see changed in CANCON hit me up.

Have a great Canada Day next week and remember; All Music is Real Music.

What I'm listening to:

HAIM - Women in Music Pt III

Lisa Leblanc - Why You Wanna Leave, Runaway Queen

Devin Townsend - Ghost
