Finishing a goal

Roughly this time last year; I picked up a book of writing prompts. "Just Write One Thing Today" has 365 prompts of different lengths, some you can fill into the pages, others you need a notebook for. But the idea is as the title suggests, just write one thing. Be spontaneous, don't worry about the technicality as much as just filling in the pages. Have fun with it, but do it every day. The thing about adding anything to your routine is that even if it's supposed to be something you enjoy it can still feel like a chore some days. That's exactly what happened for me, especially on "Intensive Weeks" 5 day stretches of prompts you need that separate book for. But somehow I kept it going, sure there were a handful of days where I did forget to fill it in (less than a week overall, and never more than one day) but I'd make up the next day by doing two prompts.

I enjoy writing, but my biggest struggle has always been with output. I don't always have the attention span to sit down and fill in a few sheets of paper with words, nevermind doing it every day. But the more I filled out this book, the better I got with it. Now it's become; I don't want to write about this specific thing I was told to creatively write about. But, at least that problem feels like an easier hurdle to go past.

But as of September 5th. I'll have filled the whole dang book up. Except for one spot, which I have left blank. It's one of those "Letter to myself" prompts. Needless to say the last year has been a real challenge for me, so I want to wait until either 2021 or whenever this pandemic ends and then fill it out. Then I can look back on some of what I've filled in with nostalgia, and probably see how much my writing has gotten better since filling in this book. I'm pretty proud I stuck to this too.
