A good song is a good song, no matter how short or long it is. I keep noticing songs getting shorter and shorter as a way of Boosting streaming numbers, or because labels think people have a shrinking attention span (which is nonsense because I have a low attention span and I can listen to longer music just fine). Another argument is that MAYBE you don't feel like you have time to listen to longer songs; but right now EVERYONE HAS THE TIME.

So I'm gonna go over some long songs for you to listen to (that you might not know)

1. Porcupine Tree - Arriving Somewhere (But Not Here...) [12:07]

Off of 2005's Deadwing; This 12 minute song serves as the centerpiece of this highly underrated album. But it never feels like it drags on, every part of this song is as long as it needs to be.

For Fans of: Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Opeth

2. New Order - The Perfect Kiss (12" Version) [10:37]

Blue Monday is another long track (4-7 minutes depending on which version of the song you hear) but I wanted to focus on lesser known but still great songs. The first part of the long version of The Perfect Kiss builds up the different layers as an introduction (plus Peter Hook plays a killer bassline). There's just so much going on in this song it makes you want to pay attention to every little thing going on in this song. Even though lots of the song is programmed, you still hear the chemistry everyone has on this song, and how tight the playing is.

For Fans of: 80's new wave, Joy Division, Nine Inch Nails.

3. The Orb & David Gilmour - Metallic Spheres (48:53)

This is technically a whole album...but it's meant to be listened to as a whole song. One of my go-to "take an hour and relax with nothing else going on" songs. Sure to appease any techno-heads and open minded classic rockers alike.

Listen to the first side, and go from there.

For Fans of: Pink Floyd, The KLF, Brian Eno
